Pigeon Valley, White Valley, Love Valey

A walk around the village of Göreme in Cappadocia, Turkey.
  • Start: Göreme bus station
  • End: Göreme bus station
  • Distance: approx. 8 km
  • Altitude difference: 50-100 m
  • Overall difficulty: easy
  • Required time: approx. 4 hours
  • Refreshment points: one in the middle of the route
At the Göreme bus station follow north along the riverbed until asphalt ends and the road the road comes a dirt one. On the first fork keep north (ignoring the sign to the cafe). The road will turn into a path and will traverse few short tunnels. Climbing slowly it will reach the right side of a long valley. After about an hour the road will widen and will eventually come up in the outskirts of Uchisar. Turn right downhill until you reach the main asphalt road to Göreme. Cross it and follow the dirt road; in a few minutes you will likely encounter a juice seller. Right next to him the path descends sharply into the valley below. Follow it until you reach the bottom of the valley. From there you can chose either the left side (narrower path, some tunnels - the last few quite narrow) or the right side (wider path transforming into a dirt road). Passing by a few gardens and beautiful fairy chimneys, the road will eventually lead you to the end of the valley close to a small bridge and asphalt road. Take the road right. With a broad right turn it will lead you back into Göreme. See pictures from the route. Tracks: KML file (Note: coordinates are approximate as they were drawn using Google Earth and not taken from a GPS recording device).
